Shopping/Groceries

Key West Shopping

When you’re on vacation, there’s nothing like taking a lazy stroll down the boulevard, shopping to your hearts content. Whether its for jewelry or art, clothing or souvenirs, groceries or alcohol, you’re sure to find that particular trinket or bobble that will satisfy whatever floats your boat..There are about as many shops in Key West as there are bars. Some of our favorites are off the beaten path but worth checking out.

Pelican Poop Shoppe    314 Simonton St (305-292-9955305-292-9955)

Pelican Poop is one of the finest shoppes in Key West to browse the largest inventory of Caribbean arts and crafts at the most reasonable prices, including works from local artists as well as artists from Haiti, Guatemala, Mexico and South America. It’s one of our favorite places to go when we’re in town. Lee and Mary Ann are two of the friendliest, most knowledgeable folks on the Island. If there’s something you’re looking for, they’ll surely be able to help you find it.

There’s quite a wealth of history that goes along with this particular property as well that I think you’ll find quite interesting. It was one of the first hotels in Key West and once housed a car dealership on the first floor with apartment rentals featured upstairs. One of those tenants being Ernest Hemingway and his wife Pauline. It was here, in 1928-29, that Mr. Hemingway finished ” Farewell to Arms”.  There’s also a wonderful garden tour in which you can peruse some of the native habitat and learn about Key West history in the process. The gardens can now be reserved for your special event. The Pelican Poop Shoppe is open 7 days a week from 10am till 6pm. They are located on Simonton Street across from City Hall.
